Body checked. 1/13/2005

It’s finally happened. After some 20 years of riding, racing and general mayhem on motorcycles, I had an accident on the road, involving another vehicle. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve fallen off my bikes several times, but all incidents were my fault, and mine alone, with no third parties involved. Well, not counting the track stuff.

I was riding on my way to work this morning, lane splitting through the traffic jam, when this young lady in a Kancil decided to change lanes in front of me. I was in between the middle and the fast lane, and she wanted to cut right, into my path. I slammed on the brakes, and immediately the rear locked up. First mistake. Because I now had very little directional control over the bike. I then tried body english, but there is very little you can do when you’re between a row of cars.

I slammed right into the Kancil, cleverly protecting my precious motorcycle with the left side of my body. Thanks be to the person who invented body armour and kevlar. The door of the Kancil crumpled, and the wing mirror broke off. My left elbow landed on the driver’s side window and shattered it. 4oolbs of motorcycle and 200lbs of rider probably just about equalled the weight of that Kancil.

I was now leaned up against this Kancil, and the lady driver was staring at me in shock. I flipped up my visor, and said, “Next time, use your mirrors, indicator and make sure it’s safe before changing lanes.”

And I rode off.

Note to self. Trade in bike for another at bike shop today.

Mistake, mistake…. first of all, was the lady cute or not? If yes, you should have proceeded with the standard post-accident details taking. Numbers marn, numbers. Get her numbers for future use (yours, or if you dun want, can give to rest of us.) and her car number for 4D use.
