I went into HQ, and cleared up the mess. This is what happened. On site, I have to sign what is called a “Site Daily Attendance Record.” It is basically a time sheet, where we record our time in and time out, and put down our signature. It runs on the honour system, where the time that we record is up to us. Meaning that we could lie, and no one would be the wiser.
Everyday, the previous day’s Attendance Record is faxed to HQ. The girl who does this, is the Project Secretary. She is known to be a bit of a battle axe, and with an attitude problem to boot. She never shows any respect to her superiors and others higher up the corporate ladder than her, including me. When any specific staff doesn’t report in, she makes a note on the Record, like “Late”, and faxes it off to the M.D.’s secretary.
On the days when I was asked to ’show cause’ that I was absent, I was actually on approved annual leave. I had seen the leave form, signed and approved in HQ. And the project secretary was duly notified. Only thing is, when I was on leave, she had put down ‘absent’ on my Attendance Record for the day.
Which, as you can imagine, caused no end of consternation in my company. Now that we have identified the culprit, punitive measures will be taken in the near future. The bitch is going to wish she had never been born.
