Transfer Part II. 9/9/2005
I got a call yesterday asking me to report back to HQ. I asked why, and was told that the equipment database needed to be updated, i.e. technical information from the old version of the database had to be keyed into the new version. Data entry work. I was furious. It wasn’t like we didn’t have anything to do on site. There were meetings, discussions, drawing approvals. A thousand and one things which have to be detailed and taken care of before you can even think of bringing the first machine in.
So, with much resignation, I walked in to the main office, and was briefed. I ranted at the Head of Consultants that he had 5 consultants working for him, and why couldn’t he get one of them to do it. And he told me they were busy. Busy checking their personal e-mail, listening to mp3s, chatting in the pantry, coming in at 9 and leaving at 4. Bastards.
Anyway, I took the opportunity to see the acting Managing Director. We sat down in his office, and had a long chat about various things, including the direction of the company, and my career path within it. And also my current terms of contract.
And we resolved things to my satisfaction. I’m not quite a happy camper, mainly because I’m sitting down here ostensibly doing what is the work of a data entry clerk. But I guess that makes me the most qualified, professionally certified, over paid data entry clerk in the world
