Screwing the Spammer. 1/16/2006
Most unfortunately, I have been having trouble with a bloody spammer of late. I came back over the weekend, to find over 2 and a half thousand comments in my inbox. This is intolerable, not the least of which is I will have to winnow through all the spam to find if anyone has actually left any comments.
I initially wanted to disable comments completely, but why should I pass up the opportunity to be flamed, like everyone else in the blogosphere. Not that it has happened yet. Paul Tan suggested that I force user registration, which I have done. This means that all readers of this blog will have to register their username, and provide a password, before they can post comments.
I’m looking into installing some sort of “captcha” plug-in, which I’ve found. Now to find the time to start messing about with my Wordpress template, without fucking everything up too badly. I’m guessing that this is going to turn many of you away from posting comments, but so be it. The price is my sanity, and patience, which I would like to keep.
