Wish you were here. 2/9/2006

I’ve been on leave the past week, trying to finish of my annual leave entitlement from 2 years ago, which still leaves me with some 30-odd days of leave to finish for this year, which I will have no chance of doing.

I was sitting by the pool, having a cold beer, which tasted heavenly in yesterday’s heat, when my mobile phone made a rude beeping noise.  I picked it up, and it was a message from K, the Site Manager, asking me if I was free to come in tomorrow.  I called him back, and asked him what was going on.  He then said that the Project Director had called an “all-hands” meeting, and wondered if I was able to attend.  I thought about this for a couple of seconds, and knowing K for the past 4 years, he wouldn’t have asked me this if he didn’t think it was important.  So I said that I would be there.

I rolled in this morning, fighting through the traffic, which was horrendous.  2 weeks of not riding in city traffic had made me a little rusty, and I was busy re-learning things like the gap between 2 cars which would allow my mirrors to slip through.  As I got in, Jerkoff, he of the mastubatory office habits, told me that K had thrown in his resignation.  Which explained the meeting.  The first question I asked was who was going to be K’s replacement, and Jerkoff started giving me unverified information, like he always does, to show that he’s in the know.

I got to my desk, and K walked in and sat down, and explained the whole situation to me.  Which shed a lot of light on the whole situation of late.  And explained some of his behaviour.  And then he tells me that the meeting has been postponed to 3 p.m. tomorrow.  I cursed at this, and told him I should have said I was on the beach in the Maldives, instead of wasting my morning like this.
