Starting them young. 9/2/2006

Reader Intensecure sent me the link for a picture of his BMW R, which he owned when he was in the U.K.

He apparently has managed to spin that bike around on one of the cylinders, whilst pinning his ankle under the bike at the same time.  He is also a track fiend, like me, and I would like to, at this juncture, extend an invitation to Intensecure to meet up for coffee at the next track day.

Intensecure is currently bikeless, and the bike shops in this city have managed to give him sticker shock, much like Adrian’s reaction when he visited a couple of weeks ago.  I hope that he will get a bike of some sort soon, and I can have another riding buddy to scare shitless when we go canyon strafing.

…sticker shock?

NSDS : Sticker shock is when you look at the prices of motorcycles in this country and promptly have a heart attack.

I too get Sticker shock. It must be related to looking at antique furniture and seeing a price with 3 to 5
zeroes on the price tag. That tag becomes so HEAVY, you just cannot drop it QUICKLY enough.

Thats why I bought a classic, with a supply of parts available - A CB400A, with under 11,000 miles on.
Practically perfect in every way - Just like Mary Poppins. But I suspect that it corners better than she
does.

Hey, thanks for the mention! I should point out for the sake of a reality check, that I grounded the pot, with my ankle underneath the peg, which partly spun the bike, and then I recovered it on the rebound before crashing. Woohoo, bike hero, but entirely due to ultra low centre of balance of these original 1100R’s. Magic bikes, wobble but they don’t fall down. :)
Fallen off a few others though! I’ve had three Beemers, K75 (pig commuter), F650 (great city fun) and the 1100R - my fave. Also a Triumph Trident 900, such a beauty to ride, creamy smooth engine but no fairing at 130mph is tough ;) Plus countless other 250-600’s in various styles and states for commuting! Done a few track days on FZR400/600’s.
So, I havent finished reading yr blog right through yet, so where are the “haunts”, and where do they do track days?! That could be fun! But I am older and slower now, be warned!! There are old motorcyclists, and bold motorcyclists, but few old, bold motorcyclists. ;)
Still in sticker shock, though, too used to big expensive beasts, I guess. And a scooter just isn’t going to do it…
Cheers!
