Need to know. 12/12/2008
I am capable of many things, many skills. Most of them are redundant in the corporate world. Not many companies need someone who is able to calculate exactly how many kgs of C-4 is needed to implode a brick wall, unless I happen to work for Controlled Demolition Inc. Some companies would certainly look for me for my experience in turbines, compressors and pressure vessels, but with the current economic climate, no one is hiring. I can strip a superbike engine down in an hour and rebuild it in three, but I don’t work for a racing team. I can look at someone and read their body language fairly well, a useful skill when negotiating a contract, or when wondering if you should unholster your weapon first.
But I was never taught, or ever learned, the skill to read minds, least of all from a one page memo. Sometimes, in order for someone to do their job effectively, efficiently and most of all, correctly, they need to be given the entire picture, especially when they’re at nosebleed height in the corporate world. Being obtuse and Machiavellian usually causes more problems and inefficiency than it solves. Keeping people in the dark tends to result in them getting killed, which is something I found out the hard way, or results in wasted time and resources, which is a lot more common in the corporate world.
Yes, I could have asked more questions, and clarified things, instead of blindly groping in the dark. And the assumption that I knew exactly what information was required was dreadfully wrong, because I had no idea what the information was going to be used for. And certainly I was forewarned many times that information presented at nosebleed level ne plus ultra had to be in exactly the right format. Those things were my errors, and I will gladly fall on my sword for them. Wait, I no longer carry a sword, so I guess a DT Swiss bladed wheel spoke through the heart will have to suffice.
And by the way, just because I am not a spiritual person does not mean I do not understand or know how spirituality works.

Sounds like SOMEONE pissed you off.
Relax, have a brew or two.
Sometime I’d like to hear more. The ripples on the surface speak of troubling eddies deeper down. I hope the flow gets right for you once more.
Shit is still happening, Huh?
I’ll be in touch.
