Midnight express. 5/19/2009

It is customary for the wolf and myself to have our nightly run past midnight.  Well, the dog runs, I ride a pushbike.  We do it after midnight because there is next to no traffic on the road, and I can let her run off the leash, since there is no one around.  The security guards in the gated community where I live are used to this, and welcome my presence as an extra hand to keep on eye on things.  My riding a bicycle allows her to set the pace, and I can follow her along without coughing up my lungs.

The dog and I have fallen into a routine on this.  After everyone is fed, and the cats have had their evening entertainment, the house gets shut down, and I grab the bicycle and head out with her.  As it was last night.  The night air was cool, and everything was quiet.  Quiet except for the rhythmic thump of a pair of sneakers hitting the pavement.

I looked around, and saw a guy running on the main road, breathing hard, obviously putting in the miles.  Nothing strange in that, except that it was close to being 2 a.m. and who the hell goes running at 2 in the morning?  What was he training for?  To be Batman?

Probably trying to escape the pollution of the daytime air. Or running when it is cooler?
And coming from someone who goes cycling after midnight, er, why is it any stranger to go running at night? ;)
And when are we going to get some miles in on the “other” bikes, huh???

Hmmm… I’ll guess that he can’t sleep, or maybe just trying to get his mind off things. Some ride bikes, others jog at 2 a.m.

Don’t you think?

May I pose this scenario:

I looked around, and saw a guy riding behind a dog - a bloody big dog - on the main road, breathing hard, obviously putting in the miles. Nothing strange in that, except that it was close to being 2 a.m. and who the hell goes walking their dog, let alone riding behind a veritable wolf at 2 in the morning? What was he training for? To be Batman?
